Molybdenum Dialkyl Dithiocarbamate

Product Introduction

As a kind of good friction modifier, the product has excellent extreme pressure and anti-wear performances. It can reduce the friction coefficient between the locomotion parts efficiently. Moreover, the product has excellent anti-oxidation. It can be used in engine oil, industrial oil and grease.

Reference Dosage

As friction modifier in lubricant oil, the recommended dosage is 0.2%-1.0%. For grease, the recommended dosage is 1.0-3.0%.

Molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) is a chemical compound composed of molybdenum, carbon, sulfur, and hydrogen atoms. It is commonly used as an additive in lubricating oils and greases to improve their anti-wear and extreme pressure properties.

MoDTC acts as a friction modifier and anti-wear agent by forming a protective film on the metal surfaces in contact, reducing friction and wear. It also exhibits excellent thermal stability and oxidation resistance, making it suitable for use in high-temperature applications.

The structure of MoDTC consists of a central molybdenum atom bonded to two dithiocarbamate ligands. The dithiocarbamate ligands contain a carbon atom bonded to sulfur atoms through double bonds, with alkyl groups attached to the carbon atom. The alkyl groups can vary in length and branching, providing flexibility in tailoring the properties of MoDTC for specific applications.

MoDTC is typically synthesized by reacting molybdenum oxychloride or molybdenum trioxide with dithiocarbamate salts in a solvent, followed by purification and drying. The resulting compound is a dark-colored, oil-soluble liquid with a characteristic sulfur odor.Through continuous improvement by our company, the sulfur smell is extremely low.

In lubricating oils and greases, MoDTC is typically added at low concentrations, typically in the range of 0.1 – 5% by weight, depending on the desired performance and application conditions. It is often used in combination with other additives, such as antioxidants, detergents, and viscosity modifiers, to enhance the overall performance of the lubricant.

Overall, molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate is a versatile and effective additive for improving the performance and durability of lubricants, making it widely used in various industries, including automotive, industrial machinery, and aerospace.
